About ReFIT
  • Remodeling for Independence Together (ReFIT) is a non-profit volunteer organization that provides home modification services for physically and financially challenged homeowners who wish to remain living independently in their homes.
  • Founded in 1997, ReFIT has worked on homes in Oregon's Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties to remove structural barriers that limit the use of the home to the owner due of their age or disability.

Kreipe is a hands-on kind of guy, and he uses his talent – more than 25 years of residential remodeling and design experience – to help others.

A well known and respected business owner, Kreipe faithfully volunteers his time, expertise and materials to ReFIT, a non-profit volunteer organization based in Portland, Ore. that provides home modification services for physically and financially challenged homeowners.

Kreipe isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. In fact, he's a regular volunteer at the organization's remodeling projects, where he contributes everything from materials to know-how. For example, Kreipe spearheaded a kitchen remodel for a family that could not get their wheelchair-bound daughter in and out of the kitchen safely.

Kreipe not only gives generously of his time and talent, but also his wallet. Over the years, he has donated thousands of his own dollars to the organization and was instrumental in helping to establish long-term funding.

Larry Klobertanz of American Benefits Financial Services took note of Kreipe's outstanding efforts and nominated him as a Symetra Community Champion.

"Jim's willingness to help others in need, and his commitment to giving back to the community we live in are truly inspiring," said Klobertanz. "He's shown me that, working together, we can make a difference."
