Terry Altfillisch is a true community role model who has touched the lives of so many of kids in Galena, Ill. His enthusiasm and commitment to education is evident in the many organizations and activities he supports.

One of Terry’s greatest passions is his work for the Galena Education Foundation. Through after-school activities, agriculture days, supplying much-needed supplies, and other programs, Terry and the Foundation help provide a positive environment for kids. As Secretary, Terry helps promote the Foundation's mission of creating excellence in the Galena Public School District and rewarding student achievement through scholarships.

Always the first to volunteer for his children’s school activities, Terry also spends many a weekend chaperoning gym days or assisting teachers on 3-day class trips.

His inspiration was fellow Galena resident and Cub Scout Master Kurt Carter. Kurt always told Terry that “It’s all about the kids—they are our future.” When Kurt lost his battle with cancer, Terry took those words to heart, and took over as Cub Master, continuing to serve in that role for several years.

Terry was nominated as a Symetra Community Champion by long-time friend and agent, Marc McCoy of Bauer-McCoy Insurance Agency. “Whenever there is a job to be done Terry is there to help, said McCoy. “He is very caring and dedicated person that will do anything for the children of Galena.”
