American Cancer Society
  • The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem through research, education, advocacy and service.
  • For more than 60 years, ACS has led the way in cancer research working to determine the causes, supporting efforts to prevent and cure the disease, and helping educate the public about cancer risks, early detection methods and prevention.

Tom and Sharon Naught are volunteer extraordinaires. Combined, the couple volunteers their time, skill and financial resources to more than 35 charitable organizations including the American Cancer Society, Hospice, Easter Seals, YMCA, Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce and both the East Side and West Side Business Associations.

The Naughts began their volunteer work with the American Cancer Society (ACS) in the early 1990s. Together, they have worked tirelessly to support the ACS in its mission to fight cancer. The couple regularly participates in a variety of volunteer programs and fundraisers that benefit the organization. In fact, the Naughts are the founders of the local Jefferson City ACS’s Boost BBQ, which provides funds for boost nutritional supplements to cancer patients.

Not only do the Naughts actively support the ACS and other local charitable organizations, but they also encourage their employees to do the same. Each spring, the couple hosts a friendly competition among the 15 Naught-Naught Agency offices located in Missouri. Employees at the offices band together to put on bake sales, car washes and other fundraisers with the goal of seeing which office can raise the most money for charity.

The Naughts were nominated as Symetra Community Champions by Bob Redel of Naught-Naught Agency. "The Naughts are truly committed to the fight against cancer. From ACS’s annual Daffodil Days, to the Relay For Life, golf tournaments and other events – you name it, they do it," said Redel. "Their dedication to the cause is inspiring."
